WARNING!!!! PLEASE READ!!!
General Safety Rules
- Always treat every firearm as if it's loaded. ⚠️ Never assume a firearm is unloaded. Check the chamber and magazine well visually and physically every time you handle it.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. Your trigger finger should rest straight along the side of the receiver, outside the trigger guard.
- Be sure of your target and what's beyond it. Know where your projectile will end up if you miss the target or if it passes through it.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes eye protection and hearing protection at all times when firing or handling firearms with live ammunition.
Pre-Test Safety Check
Before you begin the function test, perform a thorough safety check of the Firearm and your environment.
- Clear the firearm if applicable: Ensure the firearm is unloaded and clear of all ammunition. Visually and physically inspect the chamber and magazine well.
- Inspect the Components: Check all parts for damage, defects, or loose fittings. This includes the barrel, bolt carrier group (BCG), trigger, and the upper and lower receivers.
Putting the Upper on the Lower Receiver (if applicable)
This is a critical step in assembly. While the firearm is clear, follow these steps:
- Ensure the takedown pin on the lower receiver is out.
- Align the upper receiver with the lower receiver. The upper receiver will slide into the pocket at the rear of the lower receiver, paying attention to upper receiver lug hole and lower takedown pin holes. Push the upper receiver to the rear until the holes align.
- Push the takedown pin into place. This locks the upper and lower receivers together.
Function Testing (Dry Firing)
Due to the wide variety of upper receiver manufacturers, it is crucial to perform a safety and function check before ever loading the firearm.
A dry fire function test is performed without any ammunition and is crucial for verifying the Firearms mechanical operation.
VERIFY THE FIREARM IS UNLOADED
- Check the Safety Selector: With the hammer cocked, place the selector on 'SAFE.' The trigger should not move. Then, move the selector to 'FIRE' and pull the trigger, do not allow the hammer to strike the frame or damage will occur.
- Test the Trigger Reset: Keep the trigger held back after the hammer drops. Manually charge the firearm (pulling the charging handle back and releasing it), simulating a new round being chambered. Once the bolt has returned home on an empty chamber, slowly release the trigger. You should hear and feel a click as the trigger resets. This confirms it is ready to fire again.
- IF THE FIREARM DOES NOT RESET THE TRIGGER PROPERLY DO NOT CONTINUE, REACH OUT TO FREE STATE GUN COMPANY FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.
Live Fire Function Test (Range Only)
This test is performed at a shooting range and requires live ammunition.
- Load a Single Round: Insert a single live round into an empty magazine. This is a common practice to mitigate the risk of a full-magazine malfunction during the initial test.
- Fire the Round: Chamber the round and fire it at a safe backstop.
- Check for Ejection: After firing, the spent casing should eject.
- Repeat with More Rounds: If the Firearm functions correctly with one round, load a few more and repeat the process. Check for proper feeding, firing, and ejection.
- IF THE FIREARM DOES NOT FUNCTION AND CYCLE PROPERLY DO NOT CONTINUE, REACH OUT TO FREE STATE GUN COMPANY FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.
Post-Test Procedures
- Unload and clear the firearm: Once the test is complete, unload and clear the firearm immediately. Double-check that the chamber and magazine well are empty.
- Field Strip and Inspect: Disassemble the firearm and inspect all components for any signs of excessive wear or damage. Pay close attention to the bolt carrier group, barrel, and buffer system.
- Clean and Lubricate: Properly clean and lubricate the firearm before storing it.
IF you have any questions or concerns during assembly, safety, function and live fire checks do not hesitate to contact Free State Gun company.

Awesome gun
I was also really excited that we were now able to get an aluminum mnc lower. And Free State did not disappoint! I had an issue where the mag would fall out but after talking to their awesome customer service all it was is a tension screw that needed to be tighten 3/4 of a turn. When you order a lower make sure you order the mag release one the side of your support hand. The mag release is like your normal ar15 but its to far to reach with your finger. Thats why you need it on your support hand side.

Love this thing!
I was super excited to place my order once I found out that the MnC was being brought to life in aluminum. It took me all of 5 minutes to swap my parts over to the SAS-9 and it’s been running flawlessly. Looking forward to more offerings from Free State Gun Co.!

SAS-9
This thing is incredible. I got the stripped lower and paired it with a silver aves engineering Mac 11 upper. Took it to the range yesterday and didn't have a single misfeed or light primer strike. The quality of this thing is insane. Everyone at work has been very jealous.

sas-9
the build quality and feel of the sas-9 is spectacular, i thought since it was aluminum, i thought it was going to be slightly heavy but its surprisingly very light for its size, only a couple of complaints i have, the bolt seems to ever so slightly hit the feed ramp causing some shavings to come off the ramp, it is an Aves upper so im not sure why it rubs, and the other is that, gripping it at the front feels a little awkward without a fore-grip, i wish there was the option to add something in front of the mag well, the abrupt fall off from the mag release area to the mag well is, like i said a bit awkward to grip. this can be solved with a fore-grip. its amazing going from a 3d printer hunk of plastic that can break to a solid aluminum chasis.
